Digital Smile Design & Technologies

Digital Smile Technologies combine 3D imaging and advanced planning to create smiles that look natural, function beautifully, and reflect the real you.

Digital Smile Design & Technologies

Modern dentistry is more than what we do with our hands—it’s how we plan, design, and deliver care with intention and precision. At Wholehearted Dental, we use advanced digital tools to enhance accuracy, improve comfort, and personalize your experience from start to finish. Whether we’re planning an implant, designing a smile, or fabricating a restoration, these technologies help us create results that feel as good as they look.

CBCT 3D Imaging

Cone Beam CT (CBCT) imaging gives us a detailed, 3D view of your teeth, jawbone, nerves, and surrounding structures—all with a quick, comfortable scan. Unlike traditional 2D X-rays, CBCT allows us to diagnose complex issues and plan treatments with greater precision and confidence.

· Hidden Root Fracture Diagnosed: A patient came in with lingering discomfort on a previously treated molar. A standard X-ray looked normal, but the CBCT scan revealed a vertical root fracture that would have otherwise gone undetected.
· Precise Implant Planning: A patient missing a lower molar was ready for an implant. Using CBCT, we measured bone height, width, and exact location of the mandibular nerve.
· Sinus and Bone Grafting Evaluation: For a patient missing multiple upper teeth, the CBCT revealed expanded sinus cavities and insufficient bone height. We planned a sinus lift and bone graft with confidence.

CEREC CAD/CAM

CEREC technology allows us to design, mill, and place custom ceramic restorations—often in just one visit. With digital scanning, in-house design software, and a precision milling unit, we can craft crowns, onlays, and bridges that fit beautifully and blend seamlessly with your smile.

We have the ability to mill a wide range of materials, from provisional (temporary) crowns to long-lasting, highly aesthetic restorations made from lithium disilicate and zirconia. This flexibility allows us to tailor each treatment to your clinical situation.

  •  Same-Day Crown Before Travel: A patient fractured a molar before an international trip. We scanned, designed, and placed a ceramic crown in one visit.
  • Onlay for Worn Tooth: A patient with a temperature-sensitive, worn-down tooth received a custom onlay milled and placed in one comfortable visit.
  •  Provisional Crown for Monitoring: A patient had a very large cavity with an uncertain prognosis. We milled a provisional crown to restore function while monitoring the tooth.
  •     Single-Visit Dental Bridge: A patient missing a front tooth received a three-unit zirconia bridge, designed and placed in one appointment.

3D Printing

Our in-house 3D printer allows us to bring digital designs to life—quickly, accurately, and affordably. From surgical guides and night guards to temporary restorations and smile mockups, 3D printing helps us deliver more personalized care with faster turnaround times and fewer outside lab delays.
  • Guided Implant Surgery: We used CBCT and scan data to design and print a surgical guide, enabling precise implant placement.
  • Printed Night Guard for TMJ Relief: A patient with jaw pain received a 3D-printed guard in just a few days with no impressions.
  • Smile Design Mockup: A patient considering veneers previewed her new smile with a 3D-printed mockup before committing to treatment.

Exocad Digital Design

Exocad is our digital design platform for custom restorations—from single crowns to full arch reconstructions. It allows us to plan, visualize, and refine your treatment digitally before fabrication.
  • Custom Implant Abutment: We used Exocad to design a custom implant abutment that matched surrounding teeth in shape and gum contour.
  •  Collaborative Smile Design: A patient helped choose her final smile by reviewing multiple Exocad mockups before we finalized treatment.
  •  Full Arch Rehabilitation Planning: For a patient with severe wear and missing teeth, we digitally designed and prototyped the full restoration before fabrication.
